I read a lot of self help books. I’m not ashamed and think the stigma of someone being ‘weak’ or ‘lesser’ because they want to better themselves and their lives is nothing to make fun of. That said, I do tend to read them on my Kindle or listen to them on Audible to read /listen to them without judgement on the subway or on my walks around Brooklyn. Like a lot of people, I love my life but sometimes, it can be hard. In addition to talk therapy (more on that later), when I find myself in those moments, I tend to turn to an array of books that help guide me towards a better life and a better me. I don't understand why there is a stigma against wanting to improve oneself but, for some reason there seems to be. I think, like everything, you should take what you want and leave what you don't. I certainly take that approach when reading these books. I'm open to all kinds of thought - wholistic and natural health and wellness, the law of attraction, yoga thought and philosophy, astrology, numerology, tarot...anything that can offer any guidance. To me, it's always welcome, whatever form it comes in. Admittedly, I was pretty resistant, skeptical even, of some of these ideas and concepts...until I wasn't. And then, the messages really started to register and my life slowly started to change. I opened up to the wisdom being offered, I began reflecting and eventually, transforming.
The books below continue to help me navigate my beautiful and complex progress.
I hope they too can help you on your journey.
